The Azad Hind Fauj was formed in Japan (Tokyo) with the help of the Japanese government.


We can read Azad Hind Fauj in 2 Phase :-



First Phase :-

  • The first idea of ​​formation of Azad Hind Fauj came in the mind of Captain Mohan Singh.
  • A conference was called in Tokyo on 28-30 March 1942 for the formation of the Azad Hind Fauj.
  • Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) was formed with the help of Captain Mohan Singh, Rash Behari Bose and NS Gill.
  • The First Division of the Azad Hind Fauj was deepened on 1 September 1942 under Captain Mohan Singh, in which there were about 16300 soldiers.
  • Later, Captain Mohan Singh negotiated with the Japanese army and included about 60,000 Indian prisoners of war in the Azad Hind Fauj.




Second Phase :-

  • The second phase of the Azad Hind Fauj began when Subhash Chandra Bose reached Singapore.
  • Subhas Chandra Bose reached Singapore controlled from Japan by submarine in July 1943.
  • On 4 July 1943, Rash Behari Bose made Subhash Chandra Bose the commander of the Azad Hind Fauj.
  • In Singapore, he gave the slogan "Delhi Chalo".
  • The constable of Azad Hind Fauj used to call Subhash Chandra Bose "Netaji".
  • Subhas Chandra Bose built the Azad Hind Fauj Headquarters in Singapore and Rangoon.
  • Subhas Chandra Bose established the Provisional Government of India "Azad Bharat Government" in Singapore on 21 October 1943.




In July 1944, while addressing the Mahatma, Netaji said that -

"The last war of India's independence has begun. O Father of the Nation! We seek your blessings and best wishes in this holy war of India's liberation."


Subhash Chandra Bose exclaimed, "You give me blood, I will give you freedom."


Fighting war with the Japanese along with the eastern border of India and Burma till June 1944. But unfortunately, due to the defeat of Japan in the Second World War, the Azad Hind Fauj also had to face defeat.

The soldiers and officers of Azad Hind Fauj were arrested by the British in 1942.

Subhas Chandra Bose died in an air crash on 18 August 1945, his accident still under suspicion.

The British government tried the soldiers and officers of the Azad Hind Fauj in November 1945 at the Red Fort in Delhi.

The main accused Colonel Sehgal, Colonel Dhillon and Major Shahnawaz Khan were charged with sedition.

Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhulabhai Desai and KN Katju argued in favor of these three.

But still all three were sentenced to death.

There was a strong reaction across the country against this decision, slogans were raised - "Destroy the Red Fort. Leave the Azad Hind Fauj."

Forcefully, the then Viceroy Lord Wavell, using his privilege, waived his death sentence.



Provisional Indian Government of Singapore "Independent Indian Government" :--

Subhas Chandra Bose was the President, Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff of this government.

Finance Department     ----- SC Chatterjee

Publicity Department     ----- S A Iyer

Women's Organization Department     ----- was assigned to Lakshmi Swaminathan.


Germany, Japan and its supporting countries recognized this government.
